Guide for level 1

Level 1–5: Coldridge Valley and Call of Earth

Goal: level 5, the Earth Totem and Stoneskin Totem, and the habit of fighting one mob at a time.

  • You start with Lightning Bolt and Healing Wave. Put Rockbiter Weapon on your weapon (level 1 according to client data).
  • Do the starting quests in Coldridge Valley as usual. Always read the trainer's quest list.
  • Level 4: learn Earth Shock and pick up Call of Earth from Teo Hammerstorm (Anvilmar). According to Warcraft Tavern and Hearthproof (beta):
    1. Collect 2 Iceclaw Bear Pendants from Frostmane Troll Whelps (approx. 27.3, 79.6). Turn them in to Teo.
    2. You receive Earth Sapta. Drink it at the Earth Spirit Stone (approx. 25.0, 62.4); the path starts at approx. 25.8, 69.3 and is marked with rubble.
    3. Talk to the Minor Manifestation of Earth, bring the Rough Quartz back to Teo → Earth Totem and Stoneskin Totem.
  • The sources sometimes call the NPC "Teo Hammerfist" and the items "Frostmane Bear Pendants" – trust your quest log.

Beginner mistake: casting Lightning Bolt until you are out of mana. Open with one bolt, then melee.

The full guide

The mission: reach level 60 as a Dwarf Shaman solo, with as few deaths and drink breaks as possible. Shaman is new for the Alliance in Forever, and Dwarf is the only Alliance race that can be a Shaman. That means Horde guides (Durotar, Mulgore, Thunder Bluff quests) do not apply to you – your totem quests are separate, new chains in Dun Morogh, Loch Modan, Wetlands and Arathi.

Version note (4 November 2026): this guide is a pre-launch plan. The talent order has been checked against client data 1.60.1.70755. The Alliance totem quests (Earth, Fire, Water) are documented from the beta by two independent sources; everything from level 30 and up (Call of Air and later class quests) is beta theory or unspecified, because the beta stopped at level 30. No source has played levels 41–60 in Forever – that part is theory built on client data and pre-launch guides. See Sources and quality.

Short version

Read this in 60 seconds

  1. You start in Coldridge Valley (Anvilmar, Dun Morogh) with the other Dwarves. Your first Shaman trainer is Teo Hammerstorm in Anvilmar (approx. 28.8, 66.2 according to Warcraft Tavern). He only teaches abilities up to level 6 – after that it's Ingrid Dunwald in Kharanos and Eldrun Stormbreaker in Ironforge.
  2. Level 4: Call of Earth from Teo – three steps, rewards Stoneskin Totem and the Earth Totem. Do it right away.
  3. Level 10: Call of Fire – takes you to Loch Modan. The enemies go up to level 14; consider waiting until 11–12 before doing the dangerous steps.
  4. Play Enhancement with a two-handed weapon. Hearthproof states that Shaman does not have Dual Wield in Forever. Use Rockbiter Weapon 1–29 and Windfury Weapon from 30.
  5. Level 20: Ghost Wolf and immediately Improved Ghost Wolf 2/2 – instant cast, works indoors. That makes the long Water chain (five zones) much cheaper.
  6. Level 25: Stormstrike – the core of the rotation: Stormstrike → Earth Shock in the window.
  7. Level 30: Windfury Weapon, Reincarnation and Call of Air in Arathi Highlands.
  8. Level 40: Rage of the Farseer (personal attack speed cooldown) – requires Mental Quickness 2/2 in this client version, which is why it is in the order.
  9. Level 41–60: fill out Enhancement with mana and survivability, switch to mail from 40 and follow the zones Tanaris/The Hinterlands → Un'Goro Crater → Plaguelands → Winterspring.

Two strategies – pick the right goal

Strategy Talents at 40 Pros Cons For you?
A. Enhancement, two-hander, Mental Quickness path 0/31/0 Instant Ghost Wolf from 21, Stormstrike 25, Maelstrom Weapon 5/5 and Rage of the Farseer at 40 No Improved Stormstrike (less mana regen) Default pick
B. The Hearthproof order 0/31/0 (Rage of the Farseer only at 42) More mana sustain in long fights Rage of the Farseer requires Mental Quickness 2/2 → comes later If you drink too often
C. Elemental approx. 31/0/0 Ranged damage, Lava Burst at 30 Mana-hungry solo according to every source If you'd rather stand at range

Why A: three independent sources (Warcraft Tavern, Method, Hearthproof) recommend Enhancement as the fastest and safest solo path. The difference from Hearthproof is deliberate: in client data 70755, Rage of the Farseer has Mental Quickness 2/2 as its prerequisite (not Improved Stormstrike), so we put two points there instead of into Improved Stormstrike to be able to take the top talent at 40. Mental Quickness also gives spell damage/healing equal to 30% of your Intellect – that boosts Earth Shock, Lightning Bolt from Maelstrom Weapon and your heals. We also move Improved Ghost Wolf up to 20–21 because the long Water chain sits exactly there. Neither order has been tested in game to 40 on live.

How your Shaman works in practice

Melee with spells in your pocket

Enhancement hits with a slow two-handed weapon and uses spells in short, cheap bursts: an opener (Lightning Bolt or Flame Shock), shocks during the fight and a heal between pulls. Your mana is not for casting Lightning Bolt all the time – it is for shocks, totems and heals. The weapon does everything else.

Your imbue is your most important "buff"

Totems: fewer, but the right ones

Forever has simplified totem handling: Call of the Elements (20) drops up to four totems at once from the Totem Bar, Totemic Recall (20) picks them back up and returns 25% of the mana, and Totemic Projection (22) moves them. Totem twisting is gone (Warcraft Tavern).

Solo rule: only drop totems when the fight is worth it – an elite, two mobs or a long chain of pulls in the same spot. Against a single normal mob, the totem often costs more mana than the time it saves.

Dwarf racials

  • Stoneform – removes bleed, poison and disease effects and grants immunity to them, plus −10% physical damage for 8 seconds. Your panic button against poisonous spiders and bleeding wolves.
  • Artisan's Precision – +1% hit on everything (according to Hearthproof, it replaces Blizzard's earlier Earth Fury).
  • Big Game Hunter – +5% damage against Beasts; many early Alliance zones are full of animals.
  • Find Treasure – fun but not important for XP.

Exact talent order 10–60 – strategy A

Talent points from level 10; 31 points at 40, all in Enhancement, and 51 at 60 (46 Enhancement, 5 Restoration). The site draws and validates the order.

Level 41–60 (theory – no source has played it in Forever):

  • 41–42 Improved Stormstrike 2/2: after Stormstrike you get 50% mana regen while casting for 15 seconds, and the cooldown resets when you dodge or parry. Fixes the mana that was strategy A's weakness.
  • 43–47 Ancestral Knowledge 5/5: +10% Intellect. With Mental Dexterity (attack power = 100% of Intellect) and Mental Quickness (spell damage = 30% of Intellect), that means both more melee and more Earth Shock.
  • 48–52 Tidal Focus 5/5 (Restoration): −5% mana cost on heals and +5% chance to hit. If the hit part applies to melee, it's big – verify the tooltip (see alternative F). Hearthproof takes it too.
  • 53–57 Toughness 5/5: +10% Stamina – more margin against elites and adds.
  • 58–60 Anticipation 3/3: +6% dodge. Hearthproof takes Totemic Focus here instead (alternative E).

Final distribution at 60: 0/46/5. Hearthproof ends up at 0/41/10 with the same Enhancement core. Legacy: if your account has Legacy points in Talented, talents can be unlocked up to five levels earlier (according to Warcraft Tavern, not verified) – in that case follow the same order, just earlier. Dual spec at 40: see Level 40.

Your level-by-level plan

Level 6–9: Kharanos and Dun Morogh

Goal: level 10 with a full mana rhythm: bolt opener → melee → Earth Shock as a finisher or interrupt.

  • Switch trainers to Ingrid Dunwald in Kharanos (approx. 47.6, 52.0) – Teo only teaches up to level 6.
  • Level 6: Earthbind Totem (slow) – good against mobs that run or when you need to get away yourself.
  • Level 8: Lightning Shield, Stoneclaw Totem and Rockbiter Weapon rank 2. Keep Lightning Shield up in every fight.
  • Get a two-handed weapon as soon as you can and use it to raise your weapon skill before you depend on it.

Checkpoint level 10: can you handle three normal mobs in a row without drinking? If not – fewer spells, more weapon.

Level 10–13: Call of Fire and the first talents

Goal: Thundering Strikes 4/5 (5/5 at 14), the Fire Totem and Searing Totem.

  • Level 10: learn Flame Shock, Flametongue Weapon, Searing Totem (tied to the quest) and Strength of Earth Totem. Pick up Call of Fire from a Shaman trainer (Hearthproof: Ironforge).
  • The chain (beta, Warcraft Tavern/Hearthproof):
    1. Bruegs Kindleborn in Dun Morogh – the path starts behind a farm at approx. 86.7, 47.0 and leads to a cave. He gives you the Torch of the Dormant Flame.
    2. Take the torch to Braldir Ashmantle in Loch Modan (approx. 32.0, 66.3).
    3. Collect Fire Tar from Tunnel Rat Geomancers (Silver Stream Mine, approx. 35.6, 20.2) and a Reagent Pouch from Stonesplinter Seers (Stonesplinter Valley, approx. 31.0, 77.4).
    4. Drink the Fire Sapta at the Fire Spirit Stone on the mountaintop and kill the Minor Manifestation of Fire. Use the Brazier of the Dormant Flame → Torch of Eternal Flame → back to Bruegs.
  • Warning: the targets are up to level 14, and Stonesplinter Troggs are numerous, aggressive and often have ranged attacks – pulls chain together. Do the Loch Modan steps at around 12 and pick up Loch Modan quests at the same time.
  • Level 12: Fire Nova and Purge. Method: Fire Nova pulls threat to you, not to the totem.

Level 14–19: Loch Modan and beyond

Goal: Mental Dexterity 3/3, Improved Lightning Shield 2/3, a steady rhythm.

  • Keep going in Loch Modan (assumed from Classic: Thelsamar quests, troggs and kobolds). Westfall or Darkshore are alternatives if Loch Modan gets thin.
  • Level 16: Cure Poison. Level 18: Tremor Totem (good against fear mobs).
  • Use Earth Shock as an interrupt on casters, not just for damage.
  • Stoneform against poison/bleed mobs instead of drinking the damage away.

Level 20–24: Ghost Wolf and the Water tour

Goal: instant Ghost Wolf, the Water Totem and Healing Stream Totem, without the Water chain eating up your whole evening.

  • Level 20: learn Ghost Wolf, Frost Shock, Lesser Healing Wave, Call of the Elements, Totemic Recall and Frostbrand Weapon. Put Improved Ghost Wolf at 20–21.
  • Call of Water (documented in beta; Hearthproof marks the steps after 20 as uncertain):
    1. Starts with Norric Lochthane in Loch Modan (approx. 41.9, 19.0).
    2. Hervdana Saegrund in a cave behind a waterfall in Wetlands (approx. 65.7, 76.4) gives you an empty waterskin – fill it at the waterfall outside.
    3. Fill a red skin at Stonewatch Falls in Redridge (approx. 73.7, 61.6) and a blue one at the lake near Astranaar in Ashenvale (approx. 37.0, 51.6). Boat Menethil Harbor → Auberdine; do not get off at Southshore.
    4. Water Sapta → Norric → the Forgotten Shrine at Stendel's Pond in Westfall (approx. 47.5, 60.4): kill the Corrupt Minor Manifestation of Water, turn in the Corrupt Manifestation's Bracers, swim to the Minor Manifestation of Water and bring the Shard of Water back to Norric.
  • Tip: the tour goes through five zones. Pick up quests in Wetlands and Redridge at the same time, and plan so you don't travel back and forth more than necessary. Use Ghost Wolf between every stop.
  • Level 22: Shamanistic Focus, Cure Disease, Poison Cleansing Totem, Totemic Projection and Water Breathing.

Level 25–29: Stormstrike and Wetlands

Goal: the Stormstrike rotation becomes muscle memory.

Checkpoint: are you using Stormstrike on cooldown and Earth Shock right after? Are you drinking less after Shamanistic Focus?

Level 30–34: Windfury and Call of Air

Goal: Windfury Weapon in use, Reincarnation, the Air Totem.

  • Level 30: Windfury Weapon, Reincarnation, Grounding Totem, Call of the Ancestors and Astral Recall (extra hearthstone). Switch imbue from Rockbiter Weapon to Windfury Weapon and compare time per kill on a few mobs.
  • Call of Air: Warcraft Tavern names Veyric Thundervein/Thunderhame in Arathi Highlands (approx. 59.8, 27.6), near the Shard of Myzrael; Hearthproof has not published the quest giver. The chain is said to lead on to a weapon choice (Enhancement: Rage of the Storm, a two-handed mace) – the sources disagree on whether it comes at 30 or 40 and on the weapon's stats. Verify in game.
  • Level 32: Chain Lightning and Windfury Totem. Hearthproof lists more new Alliance class quests at 33 (Elemental Aid) and 38 (Storm, Earth, and Fire) – quest givers unknown.
  • Reasonable zones 30–34 (assumed from Classic): Arathi Highlands, Hillsbrad Foothills, Duskwood, Thousand Needles/Desolace by boat.

Level 35–39: Maelstrom Weapon

Goal: use your Maelstrom Weapon stacks, not just melee.

Level 40: Rage of the Farseer and dual spec

Goal: Rage of the Farseer on a button, mail, riding and a plan for 41–60.

  • Rage of the Farseer (talent), Chain Heal and Call of the Spirits from the trainer. The client data also gives new ranks of, among others, Windfury Weapon (rank 2), Flame Shock, Lightning Shield, Healing Wave and Searing Totem at 40.
  • Hearthproof lists Heed My Call and The Tempest's Weapons as level 40 quests for Alliance Shamans – not verified. According to Hearthproof, The Tempest's Weapons rewards Rage of the Storm (the Enhancement weapon from the Call of Air chain).
  • Mail: Hearthproof states that mail can be worn from 40 (as in Classic). Swap leather for mail when Strength and Intellect are at least as good – the armor is a pure bonus.
  • Riding: Warcraft Tavern states Apprentice Riding at the riding trainer at 40. The cost is not in the client data.
  • Dual spec: opens at level 40 and reportedly costs 10 g (according to the pre-launch guides, not in the client data – verify with the trainer). According to Hearthproof, talents and Legacy talents are swapped at the class trainer in a capital city. A Restoration spec for dungeons is sensible; keep leveling as Enhancement.
  • From 40 on, everything is theory. The beta stopped at 30. The zones below come from Warcraft Tavern and Hearthproof (pre-launch lists); the level ranges are theirs.

Checkpoint level 40: do you have a mount, Rage of the Farseer on a button and a plan for your second spec?

Level 41–44: Improved Stormstrike and new zones

Goal: Improved Stormstrike 2/2 and less drinking.

Checkpoint: are you drinking less after Improved Stormstrike? Use Stormstrike on cooldown even when the mob is almost dead – the mana regen window is half its value.

Level 45–49: Ancestral Knowledge and Feralas

Goal: Ancestral Knowledge 5/5 and Tidal Focus started.

Checkpoint: how much attack power did Ancestral Knowledge give? Compare your character window before and after – it shows how much Intellect is worth to you.

Level 50–54: Tidal Focus and Burning Steppes

Goal: Tidal Focus 5/5 and the start of Toughness.

Checkpoint: are you missing noticeably less after Tidal Focus? If not, the hit part probably only applies to spells – then alternative E (Totemic Focus) is just as good for the rest of the way.

Level 55–59: Toughness and the last weapons

Goal: Toughness 5/5 and a weapon with more than 40 DPS.

Checkpoint: are Stormstrike, Earth Shock, the Maelstrom Weapon bolt and Rage of the Farseer a habit rather than a list?

Level 60: Anticipation and raid start

Goal: 0/46/5 and ready for dungeons and raids.

Checkpoint: all 51 talent points spent, mail on your body and a second spec planned.

Rotations – rules, not lists

A. Normal mob, level 1–24

  1. Lightning Shield up, Rockbiter Weapon on your weapon.
  2. Open with Lightning Bolt (Hearthproof: rank 1 is enough to pull) or Flame Shock if the mob will live a while.
  3. Melee.
  4. Earth Shock to finish or to interrupt a cast. From 20: Frost Shock if the mob runs.
  5. Heal between fights, not during, unless you have to.

B. Normal mob, level 25–60

  1. Lightning Shield, Windfury Weapon (30+).
  2. Pull with Lightning Bolt/Flame Shock.
  3. Stormstrike on cooldown → Earth Shock right after.
  4. Maelstrom Weapon at 5 stacks → Lightning Bolt.
  5. Searing Totem/Strength of Earth Totem only when the fight is long or several mobs are waiting.
  6. From 42: Stormstrike even on mobs that are about to die – Improved Stormstrike gives mana regen for 15 seconds. If you dodge or parry, Stormstrike is ready again immediately.

C. Two mobs or an elite

D. Caster

  • Earth Shock as an interrupt. Pull around corners (line of sight) so the caster comes to you.

Action bar – suggestion

Key Ability Why
1 Stormstrike Main attack from 25
2 Earth Shock Damage and interrupt
3 Flame Shock Opener/DoT
4 Lightning Bolt Pull and Maelstrom
5 Frost Shock Fleeing mobs
Q Lightning Shield Always up
E Healing Wave / Lesser Healing Wave Heal
R Ghost Wolf Travel and escape
F Stoneform Panic button
Shift+1 Rage of the Farseer Cooldown
Shift+2 Stoneclaw Totem Adds
Shift+3 Call of the Elements Totem set

Gear

  • Weapons first. Hearthproof: two-handed weapons at all levels, no Dual Wield. Examples from Hearthproof: Ironforge Greathammer (Hall of Thanes), Smite's Mighty Hammer (Deadmines), Reef Axe (Blackfathom Deeps). Verify drops and quests in game.
  • 40–60: Hearthproof ranks two-handed weapons by weapon DPS: Abandoned Ferocity (35), Rage of the Storm (Alliance class quest at 40), Beastslayer (55) and Enchanted Azsharite Felbane Staff (58). With Blacksmithing, Charged Mithril Battleaxe (43) and Thorium Greatmace (50) are strong self-made alternatives. All quest data is Classic-based – verify in game.
  • Mail from 40 (Hearthproof). Leatherworking's Skirmisher's mail (40–50) has Strength, Intellect and spell power. Otherwise, Hearthproof mentions the Elements and Beaststalker sets from dungeons.
  • Stats: the sources disagree. Method: Agility > Strength > Stamina > Intellect. Warcraft Tavern: hit, Strength, Intellect, crit. Since Mental Dexterity and Mental Quickness turn Intellect into attack power and spell damage, Intellect is worth more than in Classic. No exact stat weight – pick weapon DPS first, then Strength/Intellect/Agility.
  • Shield: Warcraft Tavern says Enhancement can use a shield; for solo leveling, Hearthproof still recommends a two-hander.

To be tested after launch

  • The talent order can be clicked in the live client, especially that Rage of the Farseer requires Mental Quickness 2/2.
  • Imbue levels at the trainer (client data: Rockbiter Weapon 1, Flametongue Weapon 10, Frostbrand Weapon 20).
  • Dual spec at 40: cost and requirements.
  • Call of Earth from Teo Hammerstorm in Anvilmar at level 4 – names, steps, coordinates.
  • Where Call of Fire starts (the Ironforge trainer or Kharanos) and whether the Loch Modan steps are reasonable at 10–12.
  • The Call of Water steps after Hervdana and whether the boat route is correct.
  • Call of Air: quest giver, location and whether the weapon choice comes at 30 or 40.
  • Whether the totem items (Earth/Fire/Water/Air Totem) are still needed in your bags.
  • That Shaman really lacks Dual Wield in Forever.
  • Rage of the Farseer cooldown and Maelstrom Weapon per stack.
  • Dwarf racials: Artisan's Precision instead of Earth Fury.
  • The talent order 41–60 can be clicked. Does Tidal Focus +5% hit apply to melee too?
  • Mail from level 40. Apprentice Riding at 40: cost.
  • Which two-handed weapon types Shaman can train (Classic: axe, mace, staff – assumed from Classic).
  • Weapon quests 40–58 (Rage of the Storm, Beastslayer, Enchanted Azsharite Felbane Staff) exist in Forever.
  • Zone levels 40–60, especially the new zones The Riverglades and Shen'dralas.
  • Where Legionite Bar (for Stormcarver) comes from.
  • What the upgraded camp objects (Rock Garden, Anvil, Field Guide, Molten Foundry, Master Forge) give.

What this guide does not claim

  • It has not been tested in game 1–60 on live.
  • It has no verified quest-by-quest route after level 24.
  • It does not promise that the level 30+ Alliance class quests look as described.

Version history

  • 2026-11-05 (1–60): extended to level 60: talent order 41–60 (0/46/5), level sections 40–60 with ability ranks from client data, mail, riding, zones and dungeons from Warcraft Tavern and Hearthproof, weapons 40–60. New profession boxes (Leatherworking, Blacksmithing, Mining, Skinning, First Aid, Cooking) with facts from the recipe data.
  • 2026-11-05: short version; imbue levels and other previously missing abilities (Sentry Totem, Water Breathing, Water Walking, Astral Recall, Far Sight) from updated client data; shared lines on dual spec, Well Fed, Camping and First Aid potions.
  • 1.0 research (2026-11-04): First version. Enhancement 0/31/0, Alliance totem quests from beta sources, Improved Ghost Wolf moved earlier for the Water tour, and Mental Quickness before Rage of the Farseer according to client data 70755.
