ForeverScout
Privacy policy
What we store
Your display name, a hash (SHA-256) of your key – never the key itself – and your uploaded game observations with time, addon version and game build. On registration a salted hash of your IP address is stored to stop abuse; the IP address itself is not stored.
What we don't store
Account name, character name, realm, e-mail or anything from other addons. Text that looks like file paths, e-mail addresses or links is dropped before anything is stored.
Exactly what the app reads
The Windows app only reads: in the WoW folder, WTF\Account\*\SavedVariables\ForeverScout.lua and Cache\ADB\*\DBCache.bin, plus the Interface\AddOns\ForeverScout folder (which it also writes to when installing the addon); its own folder %APPDATA%\ForeverScout; and a single registry value – Blizzard's InstallPath for World of Warcraft, to find the game. It only talks to guide.wow4ever.se. It does not read the process list, Battle.net.config or anything else. The source code is open. In the app, the menu item Show what is sent shows exactly what would be uploaded, and a local upload log shows what has been sent. The server rejects the whole file if it contains anything other than ForeverScoutDB.
The hotfix cache
The Windows client sends the game's DBCache.bin as is. It contains no personal data, but may contain unreleased game data. The files are only stored on the server and never published.
Cookie
Your browser gets a cookie (bv) holding your key so you don't need to log in. It is httpOnly and used only for the contribution features.
Problem reports
Report a problem stores the text, the page you were on, an optional contact and a salted hash of your IP address, and sends it to the site's admins on Discord.
Where and for how long
Everything is kept in a PostgreSQL database on our server in Sweden, until you delete it.
Deleting
Delete my contribution on the Contribute page removes name, keys, reports and points immediately. Confirmations made by other players stay under their names. Lost your key? Contact us via Report a problem and we'll delete it for you.
Your name on contributions
Your display name is shown next to what you reported (NPC pages, vendors, trainer services, quests, history) with the day of your first report – never time of day, character, IP or individual coordinates. Under Contribute you can choose Anonymous contributor at any time; then only the number of players is shown, and your data and points count as before. Blocked keys and deleted accounts disappear from credits and history.
