Shadowglen

Goal: learn range control and get out of the starting area without dying.

  • Basic loop: Mark of the Wild on yourself → Wrath at range → another Wrath if the enemy is still far away → finish with your weapon to save mana.
  • Level 4: Moonfire and Rejuvenation. Apply Moonfire while the enemy runs toward you; Rejuvenation ticks while you fight.
  • Sit down and eat/drink only when your mana is below roughly a third – not after every mob.

Checkpoint: level 5–6, Moonfire and Rejuvenation learned, at least one weapon upgrade from quests.

The full guide

Mission: reach level 60 as a Night Elf Druid, solo, Alliance, without needless deaths and with as little drinking as possible. You play Feral: caster 1–9, bear 10–19, cat as your default tool from 20, and bear when a pull turns dangerous.

Version note: WoW Forever launched on 4 November 2026. Talents and ability levels are checked against client data 1.60.1.70755. Quest chains, NPC names and the zone route are largely based on Classic knowledge and pre-launch guides – those parts are marked. The beta stopped at level 30, so everything above 30 is theory. The zone and dungeon levels for 40–60 come from pre-launch guides based on beta data. See Sources and quality.

Differences from the Skyborne guide

The foundation is the same as in the Skyborne Druid guide: Feral, Ferocity + Furor 10–19, Feral Swiftness at 20, Leader of the Pack at 30, 31 Feral points at 40 and Shifting Power + Primal Bite at 41–42. The differences:

Night Elf in Forever – racials for a druid

The values below are from client data 1.60.1.70755. Web sources disagree about Shadowmeld – read the tooltip in game.

Racial What it does (client data) Use as a Feral druid
Elune's Light +10% crit chance with all spells and attacks for 15 s, 3 min cooldown. New in Forever; replaces Nature Resistance. Press it on elites, double pulls and when a Ravage opener needs to kill fast. Crits in cat give extra combo points with Blood Frenzy.
Shadowmeld Out of combat: stealth until you move, 10 s cooldown. In combat: "discourages enemies from attacking you", but the cooldown becomes 2 min. Solo: wait out patrols while standing still. In a group: drop threat (especially as a healer). How it behaves solo in combat is untested.
Quickness +1% dodge, +2% movement speed, and Night Elf druids are seen in stealth as if they were 1 level higher. Passive. Makes Prowl a bit safer – part of the reason Feral Instinct can wait.
Wisp Spirit +75% movement speed while dead. Shorter corpse runs.

Important: Nature Resistance no longer exists. Old Classic advice that Night Elves handle nature damage better no longer applies.

How Feral works in Forever

Shapeshifts really cost something

Bear Form, Cat Form and Dire Bear Form cost 55% of base mana according to the client data. Two shifts in the same fight can therefore drain a low-level druid. In practice:

  1. Open in caster form only when it saves time (a Wrath + Moonfire before going bear at 10–19).
  2. Shift into the right form once and stay there until the enemy is dead.
  3. Heal in caster form between fights, not in the middle of one – except in an emergency.

Furor 5/5 makes this much cheaper in practice: a 100% chance of 10 Rage when you enter bear, and in cat you get back the energy you had plus 10 Energy per second spent out of form (max 100). So after ten seconds of healing in caster form, the cat is full again. Without Furor – verify in game how much energy you have on shapeshift; Classic set it to zero.

The crit chain

The core of the build at 31–40: Sharpened Claws (+6% crit in form), Leader of the Pack (+3% crit for the party within 45 yards – should apply to yourself, verify in game), Blood Frenzy (crits with combo point abilities in cat give a 100% chance of an extra combo point; crits in bear give 5 extra Rage) and Natural Instinct (+20% crit damage).

Bleeds and Rend and Tear

Rend and Tear 5/5 gives +10% damage with all melee abilities against bleeding targets. Rake (level 24) bleeds for 9 seconds and is used early in every cat fight anyway, so the talent applies almost all the time. Requires Predatory Strikes 3/3.

Shred requires you to stand behind

Shred (level 20) does the most damage but requires you to be positioned behind the target. Solo, the enemy is usually facing you, so Claw is the default. In the client data, Feral Charge also has the text "Leap behind an enemy" – if that variant works in cat, Shred becomes much more useful. Not verified.

Exact talent order 10–60

The order lives in the frontmatter and is drawn by the site. The Feral tree holds 50 points in 1.60.1.70755; this path stops at 41 and puts 10 into Restoration.

Legacy: Warcraft Tavern states that the Legacy node Talented (Adventure tree) lets talent points arrive up to 5 levels earlier. If you have it: follow the order below, not the level numbers. Not verified.

10–40

41–60 (theory)

  • 41 Shifting Power: converts mana into the same amount of energy instantly. Cheaper with effects that lower the shapeshift cost. The client data does not say how much ("X Mana") – read the tooltip. Use it when the cat is out of energy and you have mana to spare.
  • 42 Primal Bite: a bear attack for 20 Rage with a 6 s cooldown: 100% weapon damage + 42 and a lot of threat. Rank 2 at 50 and rank 3 at 60 from the trainer. Requires Leader of the Pack. Your threat button when you tank dungeons.
  • 43–47 Heart of the Wild 5/5: +10% Intellect, +20% Stamina in bear and +10% Strength in cat. Prerequisite for Naturalist.
  • 48–52 Naturalist 5/5: +10% to all damage you deal, and a faster Healing Touch. The biggest single damage increase after 40.
  • 53–57 Natural Reaction 5/5: +5% dodge and 5 Rage every time you dodge. Survivability solo and Rage when you tank.
  • 58–60 Thick Hide 3/3: more base armor in form (3 per level, more with defense skill). Worth the most in Dire Bear Form.

After 60: Hearthproof gives the same 0/41/10 split, but with different Feral talents at the end. Brutal Impact or Feral Instinct are reasonable swaps for Thick Hide if you rarely tank.

Level 1–5: Shadowglen

Level 6–9: Dolanaar and western Teldrassil

Goal: level 10 with the nearby starting-zone quests done.

  • Level 6: Thorns and Wrath rank 2. Thorns on yourself before every pull gives free damage against melee mobs.
  • Level 8: Entangling Roots and Healing Touch rank 2. Root casters you can't reach and melee mobs you want to escape from.
  • Avoid pulling two mobs at once before you have bear; you have no proper panic button yet.

Checkpoint: level 10, Hearthstone set, and you know where your trainer is.

Level 10–13: Darnassus, Moonglade and the bear

Goal: Bear Form and Teleport: Moonglade as soon as you hit 10.

Checkpoint: level 13, Bear Form, Ferocity 4/5.

Level 14–19: Darkshore and Aquatic Form

Goal: level 20 with Furor nearly done and Aquatic Form learned.

  • Level 14: Bash, Cure Poison, Healing Touch rank 3 (the data lists Cure Poison at the trainer at 14).
  • Level 16: Swipe and Aquatic Form (class quest – see the race box). Warcraft Tavern states that Idol of Shifting Tides from the Aquatic Form chain lowers the mana cost of shapeshifts – verify the tooltip in game; if so, it is worth its idol slot for a long time.
  • Furor starts filling at 15: with 5/5 you always get 10 Rage when you enter bear.
  • Level 18: Faerie Fire, Hibernate, Maul rank 2. Faerie Fire lowers armor; test whether it can be cast in form before you build it into your rotation.
  • Swipe + Demoralizing Roar handles two or three mobs in bear. Three or more casters: back off and pull them one at a time.

Checkpoint: level 19, Ferocity 5/5 and Furor 4/5, Aquatic Form learned.

Level 20–24: the cat

Goal: Cat Form and cat as your default against single mobs.

  • Cat Form comes at 20, for Night Elves through a class quest – see the race box.
  • With the cat come Prowl, Claw, Rip and Shred (all level 20 in the data), plus Omen of Clarity, Starfire and Rebirth at the trainer. Verify in game where Omen of Clarity is learned and keep it active if it is a buff.
  • Warcraft Tavern states that druids can train polearms from 20. Hearthproof lists it as unconfirmed – ask a weapon master.
  • Cat loop at 20–23: Prowl if it saves time → Shred from behind as an opener, otherwise Claw → Claw up to 4–5 combo points → Rip if the target will live a while, otherwise keep hitting.
  • Level 24: Rake and Ferocious Bite. New loop: opener → Rake → Claw up to 4–5 combo points → Ferocious Bite (or Rip against tough targets). Rake will later activate Rend and Tear.

Checkpoint: level 24, Cat Form, Feral Swiftness 2/2, Sharpened Claws 2/2.

Level 25–29: casters and multiple enemies

Goal: a stable solo pace in cat, with bear as backup.

  • Level 26: Feral Charge (talent). Against a caster: go bear, Feral Charge to interrupt and root, Bash if it starts casting again.
  • Level 26–28: Dash (+50% speed for 15 s, does not break Prowl), Abolish Poison, Challenging Roar, Cower, Claw and Rip rank 2.
  • Predatory Strikes at 27–29 raises your damage in all forms.
  • Elites and group quests: prefer bear over cat against elites, and ask for a group if the elite is a higher level.
  • Zone suggestions (assumed from Classic): Ashenvale, Stonetalon Mountains (Alliance quests at Stonetalon Peak), Redridge Mountains, Wetlands, Duskwood.

Checkpoint: level 29, Predatory Strikes 3/3, no required class quest left.

Level 30–34: Travel Form and Ravage

Goal: faster travel and stronger openers.

Checkpoint: level 34, Leader of the Pack, Blood Frenzy 2/2, Ravage learned.

Level 35–40: Dire Bear and the finished level 40 build

Goal: 31 Feral points, Dire Bear Form, mount and dual spec at 40.

  • Level 36: Frenzied Regeneration (converts Rage into health – your bear panic button), Pounce (stealth stun; an alternative to Ravage against dangerous targets), Rip rank 3.
  • Rend and Tear at 36–40: keep Rake on the target and hit with Claw/Shred.
  • Level 38: Claw and Shred rank 3.
  • Level 40: Dire Bear Form (+120 Attack Power, +600 health, armor from items +360%), Innervate, Hurricane, Feline Grace, Ferocious Bite rank 3, Prowl rank 2, Mark of the Wild rank 5.
  • Dual spec: unlocks at level 40 at the class trainer (Blizzard, Hearthproof). The price is not published – verify in game with the trainer. Restoration as second spec makes sense for anyone who plans to heal dungeons.
  • Mount: Apprentice Riding at 40. Warcraft Tavern gives 100 g for the training and 20 g for the mount; Method and Kami Labs count on about 100 g in total. Save at least 120 g and verify the price in game. The mount (60%) is faster than Travel Form (40%).
  • Barkskin only arrives at 44 in the Forever data, so don't plan for it before 40.

Checkpoint: level 40, 0/31/0, Dire Bear Form, mount.

Level 41–44: Shifting Power, Primal Bite and Barkskin

Goal: both Feral capstones and Barkskin before you head into the level 45 zones. Everything from here on is theory – the beta stopped at 30.

  • Level 41: the Shifting Power talent. Use it in the middle of a long cat fight when your energy runs out – not as a replacement for a healing break.
  • Level 42: the Primal Bite talent. Trainer: Maul rank 5, Ravage rank 2, Demoralizing Roar rank 4, Faerie Fire rank 3, Regrowth rank 6, Starfire rank 4.
  • Bear loop from 42: Primal Bite when it is ready → Maul with leftover Rage → Swipe against multiple mobs. Crits in bear give 5 extra Rage via Blood Frenzy.
  • Level 44: Barkskin (−20% physical damage for 15 s, 1 min cooldown), Rake rank 3, Rip rank 4, Swipe rank 4, Thorns rank 5, Healing Touch rank 8. Whether Barkskin can be used in form is not verified – in Classic it could not.
  • Heart of the Wild from 43: +2% Strength in cat per point, and more Intellect for shapeshifts and Shifting Power.
  • Zones (pre-launch guides, beta data): Tanaris, Feralas, The Hinterlands and Badlands. Forever's new Riverglades (up to about 44) and Shen'dralas (40) are listed by Warcraft Tavern and Hearthproof but have no described quest route.
  • Dungeons: Uldaman (41–51), Zul'Farrak (44–54) and the new Krol'dok Stronghold (40–45, bosses not published) according to Hearthproof.

Checkpoint: level 44, Shifting Power, Primal Bite, Barkskin and Heart of the Wild 2/5.

Level 45–49: Heart of the Wild and Un'Goro

Goal: Heart of the Wild 5/5, the first Naturalist points and a steady questing pace in the 45–50 zones.

Checkpoint: level 49, Heart of the Wild 5/5, Naturalist 2/5, mount.

Level 50–54: Naturalist and Gift of the Wild

Goal: Naturalist 5/5 and the next rank of every core ability.

Checkpoint: level 54, Gift of the Wild, Naturalist 5/5, Primal Bite rank 2.

Level 55–60: the finished build and raid launch

Goal: level 60 with 0/41/10, gear for dungeons and a plan for the raids on 9 December.

Checkpoint: level 60, 0/41/10, Primal Bite rank 3, dungeon gear and a chosen raid role.

Combat decision table

Situation Do this Why
1 normal mob Cat: Rake → Claw → Ferocious Bite Fastest kill
2–3 mobs Bear: Demoralizing Roar + Swipe Armor, Rage and AoE
Caster Bear + Feral Charge, then Bash Interrupts and roots
Elite or hard pull Bear with Primal Bite (42+), or cat with a Ravage opener if it can die fast Safe, or fast enough not to turn dangerous
Low HP mid-fight Bear: Frenzied Regeneration (36+), Barkskin (44+, if usable in form); otherwise a caster heal after Entangling Roots outdoors Avoid a corpse run
Cat out of energy, mana left Shifting Power (41+) Instant energy without a shapeshift
Long run Cat with Feral Swiftness, Travel Form from 30, mount from 40 Travel time
Underwater Aquatic Form Breathing and speed

Gear

  • Leather with Agility, Strength and Stamina. According to the data, Cat Form gives Attack Power equal to 12 plus your Agility, so Agility is worth a lot in cat. The sources disagree on whether Strength or Agility is best (Hearthproof puts Strength first) – compare the tooltip AP while in form. From 47, Heart of the Wild gives +10% Strength in cat, which tips things slightly more toward Strength.
  • Weapon: Warcraft Tavern states that Feral attacks scale with weapon damage in Forever. If that is true, a high-DPS two-hander matters more than in Classic. Not verified. Hearthproof mentions Ironshod Bludgeon (37.2 DPS, level 37) and Enchanted Azsharite Felbane Staff (46.7 DPS).
  • Idol: Idol of Shifting Tides if it comes from the Aquatic Form chain and lowers the mana cost of shapeshifts.
  • Consumables: Hearthproof states that mana potions work in form. Minor Mana Potion (level 5), Mana Potion (22), Superior Mana Potion (41) and Major Mana Potion (49) as an emergency reserve.
  • Don't buy expensive AH items that get replaced within a few levels. Save for training and your mount at 40.

Professions

No professions are required for the build. The boxes in the level sections only show the professions you have selected. Recommendation:

  • Skinning + Leatherworking (main choice): your own BoP gear all the way – the Brawler's set 12–25, the Prowler's set 40–50, Devilsaur Leggings and Outlaw's Collar at 55–60. Skinning gives you leather along the route.
  • Herbalism + Alchemy (alternative): your own mana potions (Minor Mana Potion at Alchemy 25 and up), Elixir of Agility, Elixir of the Mongoose and Forever's new elixirs. Check whether gathering forces you out of form in Forever.
  • Enchanting (alternative): your own idols (Mystic Mushroom 20, Talons of Wrath 40, Idol of the Dream 55) and Agility enchants.
  • First Aid: in Forever, First Aid – not Alchemy – makes healing potions (Minor Healing Potion to Major Healing Potion), in addition to bandages.
  • Cooking: food that gives Well Fed also gives +5% XP from kills in Forever (client data "Well Fed XP Boost", conditional – read the tooltip).
  • Camping (new in Forever): at a campfire, each profession can place a camp object with a buff (client data). For a Feral druid: Leatherworking's Camp Tent (rested XP), Skinning's Camp Chair (crit) or Herbalism's Incense Candle (Intellect). Higher skill unlocks more camp objects (e.g. Tanning Rack, Greenhouse); their effects are missing from the data.

Zones – a flexible Alliance route

1–40 is assumed from Classic; 40–60 comes from Warcraft Tavern and Hearthproof (beta data). No route has been tested in Forever. Adjust based on quest color (yellow/green = good).

Level Areas
1–12 Teldrassil (Shadowglen, Dolanaar)
12–20 Darkshore
20–30 Ashenvale, Stonetalon Mountains, Redridge Mountains, Wetlands, Duskwood
30–40 Hillsbrad Foothills, Arathi Highlands, Desolace, Stranglethorn Vale, Dustwallow Marsh
40–45 Tanaris, Feralas, The Hinterlands, Badlands, Riverglades, Shen'dralas
45–50 Searing Gorge, Azshara, Felwood, Blasted Lands, Un'Goro Crater
50–55 Burning Steppes, Western and Eastern Plaguelands, Winterspring
55–60 Silithus, Deadwind Pass, Mount Hyjal (60)

Two Night Elf druids in the guild

  • Solo, the same build works for both.
  • In a duo, one plays bear and the other cat or healer. Leader of the Pack probably does not stack from two druids (assumed from Classic) – the second druid can spend those points differently, e.g. following the Skyborne guide's tank path.
  • Dungeons: one tanks in bear, the other heals. See the alternatives at the top of the page: Feral and then Restoration via dual spec at 40, or the healer-leaning hybrid with Heart of the Wild and Naturalist. A healer can use Shadowmeld in combat to drop threat – verify in game how effective it is.
  • Revive (level 12) and Rebirth (level 20) save runs; keep both on your bars. Gift of the Wild (50) covers the whole group.

Risk management

  • Mana is your lifeline. Never start a new pull in form with less mana than a shapeshift back to caster plus one heal.
  • Caves and barrow dens: pull one at a time; use bear.
  • Abort a pull when a third mob comes in and you are below half HP without Frenzied Regeneration.
  • 45–60: mobs in Un'Goro, Felwood and the Plaguelands stand closer together (assumed from Classic). Pull from stealth or with Faerie Fire, not by running in.

Ability levels (1–60), racial values, recipes and items come from the 1.60.1.70755 client data in the site's dataset. No pre-launch guide has a finished Feral order for 41–60 (Warcraft Tavern and Method write that level 60 builds will come after launch; Icy Veins and Mobalytics could not be read). Hearthproof's 0/41/10 is the model for the point split, but the order here is derived from the talent data. The 1–40 zone routes are Classic knowledge. No XP/hour figures exist.

To test

  • The talent order can be clicked in the live client, including 41–60.
  • How much energy you have when shifting to Cat Form without Furor – and that Furor 5/5 works as the tooltip says.
  • Shadowmeld in combat while solo: does the enemy lose you, and for how long?
  • Feral Charge in cat ("Leap behind an enemy") – does it work, and does it enable Shred?
  • That Heeding the Call gives both Bear Form and Teleport: Moonglade, and where The Great Cat Spirit starts.
  • Whether Cure Poison requires Lessons Anew or is learned at the trainer.
  • The effect of Idol of Shifting Tides, Mystic Mushroom, Talons of Wrath, Idol of the Dream and Wolfshead Helm.
  • Whether Leader of the Pack affects yourself, and whether Faerie Fire and Barkskin can be cast in form.
  • Polearms at 20, and whether Feral damage scales with weapon DPS.
  • Dual spec at 40: cost and requirements (important for anyone who wants to heal). Mount and Apprentice Riding: total price.
  • How much mana/energy Shifting Power converts.
  • The Legacy node Talented: does it move talent points 5 levels earlier?
  • The Well Fed XP bonus: what conditions apply?
  • The race boxes: where Skyborne druids' trainer stands in Valanaar, how Tauren and Skyborne get their forms in Forever, and whether War Stomp and Elune's Light can be used in form.
  • Zone and dungeon levels 40–60, especially Riverglades, Shen'dralas, Mount Hyjal, Krol'dok Stronghold, Alcaz Prison, Blackmaw Hold and Shaper's Terrace.

Version history

  • 2026-11-05 (3): race boxes for Night Elf, Skyborne and Tauren (starting zone, trainers per Classic data, class quests, racials in combat). Night Elf-specific text in the main body (class quests, Teldrassil route, Elune's Light, Shadowmeld) moved into the boxes.
  • 2026-11-05 (2): extended to level 60. Talent order 41–60 (0/41/10), level sections 41–60 with abilities from client data, zones and dungeons from pre-launch guides, mount, dual spec (price not published – the earlier figure of 10 g has been removed), Legacy and the raids on 9 December. Profession boxes for Leatherworking, Skinning, Herbalism, Enchanting, Alchemy, First Aid and Cooking.
  • 2026-11-05: corrected professions (healing potions come from First Aid in Forever, not Alchemy), added the short version, Well Fed, Camping and a shared dual spec row.
  • 2026-11-04: First version. Theorycraft against client 1.60.1.70755, not play-tested.
